Why will you be no longer offering the one-time purchase?
Since we started (almost 8 years ago!), the needs and expectations of those who are using and want to use Explain Everything have expanded to include different device types and different operating systems. We started as a single app for iPad and have since grown into a platform accessible on any device and any operating system, including web. Our offering and pricing, which now includes a Free experience, have been updated so that we can continue to provide a great Explain Everything experience for at least the next 8 years. Moving forward, when you search the App Store there will only be one Explain Everything.
What are benefits of the new offering?
The new offering supports all existing use cases and features of the legacy product, and adds collaborative, multi-platform whiteboarding and easy one-click video sharing (videos get compressed and hosted in the cloud). This makes it easier to connect, collaborate, and share with others no matter what device (phone, tablet, computer) or system (Mac, PC, Web) they may be on.
For how long will the one-time purchase be available?
The existing one-time purchase will continue to be offered under the name ‘EE Legacy’. Sometime in late spring 2019 (northern hemisphere), the one-time purchase application will no longer be available for purchase in the App Store or Volume Purchase interface of Apple School Manager.
If you or your institution has ever purchased Explain Everything via one-time-purchase, we will provide a migration plan that offers a largely uninterrupted experience (i.e., all of the same functions and features in your current version) for your existing users. There will be no additional cost for this. Details on the migration plan will be provided in early 2019.
Why has the price of one-time-purchase increased?
The increased price of the one-time purchase application allows us to continue offering this version for a limited time, providing access to this purchase-type for individuals or institutions who need it. Our new, current offering now includes a free experience which has some limitations when compared to the one-time-purchase application, but we believe that for most school organizations, at the beginning of a deployment, it should serve the needs and use cases in your community.
Why is the VPP discount for the legacy product no longer offered?
Volume discounts to educational institutions for our current product are offered directly through us. Please contact us using this form so we can match your deployment needs with the right solution.
Will you continue to support the one-time purchase application?
The one-time purchase application, ‘EE Legacy’, will continue to receive updates while it is available for purchase. Once it has been removed from the store, we will encourage all users to do the free migration in order to continue benefiting from free application updates.
What is included in the migration plan?
The migration plan will include permanently unlocking the same functionality you purchased in the one-time purchase app (EE Legacy) within the current offering. More specifically, migrated users will have all of the features offered in the Free plan but without limits to the number of local projects on their device or on video recordings and exports. The details of this plan are still being finalized and will be available in early 2019.
What are the steps of the migration process?
We will provide details on the migration process in early 2019. However, here is a preview of what to expect:
For individuals: We will provide an easy way to unlock Explain Everything right from your device. What we will need are:
- The one-time purchase version installed on the device on which you want to migrate.
- The free version installed on the same device
- A valid Apple ID
For groups: We will offer a way to combine all Explain Everything licenses under a single group and then convert them to migrated users on the current product. What you will needs are:
- A Mobile Device Management (MDM) system
- A receipt/proof of Volume purchase(s)
The migration from the legacy to current application will not affect your projects. We will provide details on the migration process in early 2019, though if you have immediate questions please let us know.
Can users of the legacy product use subscription features? If so, what happens if they terminate their subscription?
Users of the legacy product will be able to either keep using a Free plan features or upgrade to a subscription plan after the migration (see the plan comparison). If they choose to terminate their paid plan, the result will be the same if a paid subscriber downgraded back to the Free plan. However, they will still have the benefits of being a migrated user, including unlimited number of local projects and recording.
